RTC Open Water Swim returns Monday July 29!
We're pleased to announce RTC Open Water Swim (OWS) will resume July 29th from Robious Landing Park, with an improved focus on safety and visibility.
RTC is committed to your safety and a great experience for all RTC swimmers so we have implemented several new requirements:
+ ALL OWS participants must be an RTC member - membership status will be checked onsite!
~Visit Richmond Tri Club website to renew your membership. https://www.richmondtriclub.com/
~Download the RTC app from Google Play Store or the Apple App store. Search for 'Richmond Triathlon Club' The app will show your member card - easy for check in !
+ALL OWS participants must provide a new, signed waiver at your first swim session. Even if you've submitted a waiver in the past, you'll need to sign a waiver and give it to the OWS Coordinator at onsite check-in.
+Open Water Swimmers must wear a Swim Buoy during the entire swim. There are several products on the market, such as:
~New Wave Swim Bubble for Open Water Swimmers
~Xterra Wetsuits Swim Buoy
- A Swim Buoy gently tows behind you without pulling you back or adding extra drag to your swim. A Swim Buoy provides reassurance for safer swimming by adding extra visibility and flotation.
- While a swim buoy will add to your swim safety, they do not replace a personal flotation device (PFD) or a life vest.
+Open Water Swimmers must wear a brightly colored swim cap.
+ALL OWS participants must check-in with the OWS Coordinator upon arrival to Robious Landing Park, before beginning your swim, and check-out upon exiting the swim.
+Kayakers: Kayakers/SUP must be over the age of 18 and wear a lifejacket (provided by RTC).
+Extra Assistance for Newbies: If you're a newbie or still developing confidence & experience in the open water - let the OWS Coordinator know. We will have a "newbie swim area" (shorter swim course) and kayaker(s) designated to stay with this group.
